Night of the Living Dead (1968) - The Flesh Harvest (sound re-desing & re-grade, 2026 revision)

Night of the Living Dead (1968) is an almost perfect movie. The only problem is it's 1950's stock music taken from 'Capitol Hi-Q' sound library. It probably sounded horribly dated already back in 1968. The Flesh Harvest replaces the original score by analogically generated dark ambient soundscapes and drones (except for the iconic music in the opening credits and end titles). In addition, almost every sound effect has been replaced, altered or enhanced to create a new sonic experience. With tons of new Foley sounds. EDITING DETAILS: Re-score / re-sound design: The main instrument used for re-scoring Night of the Living dead is Lyra-8. The new sound design is sequenced in Reaper, which is an invaluable sequencer for huge complex projects (with over a hundred tracks). Most of the sound effects & Foley is self-recorder/designed. Mixed in 2.0 stereo (subwoofer is highly recommended)., Re-grade / de-grade: Instead of a perfect picture quality I aimed at a dark and gritty atmosphere. A 16mm copy, with a wider aspect ratio, has also been used. Thus the aspect ratio can vary slighly in some shots., CUTS & ADDITIONS: The “love talk” scene between Tom & Judy is slightly trimmed (it was too long originally), The beginning of the very-repetitive TV-interview about the mysterious radiation is cut (redundant info and bad acting), The piece of dialog where Dwayne says that "those things make no sound" is cut (those things do make sound so it's pointless to say that they don't make any sound), Some tiny bits and pieces have been re-arranged, Original editing mistakes have been fixed. Some frames have been simply cut e.g. a when Dwayne opens a door - it’s supposed to be night time but you can clearly see daylight coming through the door. Or in a few night scenes, bright day light is clearly coming through a window (fixed by digitally darkening the windows). Probably most viewers haven’t ever even noticed these kind of minor errors in the original picture but they have annoyed me., In a few fight scenes, where Dwayne hits zombies so painfully slow (slow as a zombie), the action has been speeded up. Then again, the zombie, who attacks Barbara while she is in a car, moves way too fast compared to all other zombies in the Night of the Living Dead. The moving rate of that zombie has been partially reduced. Barbara's car rolling down the hill is sped up., PS. This is a slightly revised 2026 edit (originally released in 2024), which irons out many technical glitches. Finally the weird gamma-bug, which made the picture too dark when played on VLC, is fixed. PSS. The original Night of the Living Dead (1968) is in public domain in the US.
